Varieties
on a Global
Level
The research is largely concerned with the creation of new varieties that meet commercial and consumer criteria. Dozens of varieties are being researched, which come from existing Mexican, Guatemalan, West Indian and hybrid crossbreeds. The aim is year-round availability, shelf life and high quality. The main variety traded in the European market is Hass, but varieties that meet the quality criteria of consumers are also acceptable, such as Fuerte, Lamb Hass, Carmen Hass, etc.
Choosing the right rootstocks and varieties is a critical step in successful avocado cultivation, as it affects yield, disease resistance, and growing conditions.
