Avocado
The Project will form the basis on which the healthy and unhindered development of avocado cultivation in Crete will be based. The three parameters, Education - Certified Material - Harvest Time, solve significant problems that prevent producers from becoming competitive in the markets with an efficient product.
The research nature of the Project lies in the production of a unique Greek Provencal Avocado Plantation, for the production of certified propagation material for distribution to nursery companies, with the final recipients being the producers.
The main concern of the project is to support avocado cultivation in the wider region of Crete, support producers, protect quality and promote a qualitatively upgraded product on the market.
Also, for the first time, avocado cultivation will gain expected harvest dates, helping to maintain the high quality of the product available on the market. In addition, the modern study of chemical characteristics of Cretan avocados using modern and classical analytical techniques will offer new know-how and added value to the quality of this Cretan product. While the use of new technologies to maximize post-harvest storage of avocados will benefit producers as well as the export and commercial management of the fruit.
